Drinking water and ordinary supplies

The FCDO advises travellers in Albania to use bottled water rather than drinking tap water. Obtain what you need for a travel day before setting off. A property owner’s reassurance is not a water-quality test.

For a longer stay, ask where everyday shopping is available and how to reach it. A kitchen is less useful if the shop is not on a practical daily route. Run errands before a late arrival or remote leg rather than depending on somewhere being open when you get there.

Prepare medicines before leaving home

Check rules for prescribed and controlled medicines with the relevant authorities for your route. Discuss the supply you need and any documentation with a clinician or pharmacist in advance. Follow storage instructions and keep medicines in their original packaging.

Carry a list of medicines and important contact details. A familiar brand name does not establish that the same product is available locally. Get medical advice on substitutions or dosage; this travel guide does not determine them.

Phone access and small payments

Download addresses and route information while connected. Take the charging cables your own devices require and charge before a long movement. Read the internet guide before deciding between roaming, a local SIM or an eSIM.

Keep a way to pay small amounts and ask for a clear total. Businesses do not all accept the same cards or currencies. Check the bill and change when paying; the money guide explains currency-conversion choices.

Make a simple emergency note

  • Write accommodation, insurer and trusted-contact details somewhere other than your phone.
  • For immediate danger in Albania, call the general emergency number 112 and give your location as accurately as possible.
  • Check suitable healthcare and insurance contacts before leaving; access to care is not identical everywhere.
  • Report an arrival delay and ask the property what to do if reception is closed or your phone cannot connect.
