Stay in Përmet & the Vjosa when the route gives it enough time to become a place rather than a break. Skip it when it creates two long transfer days in a row. Choose the nearest regional hub when flexibility matters more than atmosphere.
Përmet is a base for the valley, not a drive-through lunch
The town itself offers a compact centre, food associated with the region and an evening beside the Vjosa. Benjë thermal pools, the Kadiut bridge and valley activities are separate outings whose access, crowding and water conditions change. Give the area two nights if any of them matters.
Do not schedule rafting, a canyon walk and a long road transfer on the same day. Choose one activity, confirm the operator’s safety plan and keep the rest of the day flexible.

Use the Vjosa without treating protection as a promise
National-park status is the start of protection, not proof that every operator or access point is low-impact. Ask how group size, waste, river levels and cancellations are handled. Avoid activities that require the guide to dismiss current conditions.
A dry-weather photograph does not establish safe water levels. Reconfirm close to the activity and accept cancellation or an inland alternative when the river decides the day.

The route works best with a car or one deliberate transfer
Përmet fits naturally between Korçë or the south-eastern border region and Gjirokastër for drivers. Public-transport travellers can still include it, but should verify both arrival and departure before committing to a rural stay outside town.
Skip the valley on a short coast-and-cities trip if it creates two awkward links. Add it when food, river landscape or a quieter inland rhythm is one of the trip’s main reasons.
